For some reason, even when I truly try to do something serious or important it ends up being funny!
Charlton and I went to San Antonio the Friday night before Labor day. John and his parents were going to meet us the next day.
So, Charlton and I brought the dog with us. We checked into the hotel and went to take the dog up to the room and then go get some dinner. We hauled all of our luggage up to the room, including the dog crate. Charlton put Ralphie in her crate and we shut the door of the hotel. We got half way down the hall and we hear this very loud cry! I looked at Charlton and said..where is the baby? Charlton looked at me and said."It is Ralphie". We went back and stood outside of the door of our room for 10 minutes hoping she would stop - of course not! Charlton started crying because he said she was sad so guess what we did...went and got the dog and the crate, carried it back down to the car and went to go get dinner. I called John and told him of my dilemma..he told me to go by Dramamine and give her half a pill to make her calm down some. So, I did just that! We got back up to the room and I immediately gave her the pill and she slept! Yeah!
Well....the next morning Charlton and I were off to go visit Fort Sam Houston. Charlton loves history and everything to do with the Army and Air force. Honestly, I was feeling very nervous about our little adventure. I had never been on an army base before and was a little scared about going. But..you do anything for your children..haha!
We arrive at the base and I tell the guard that I am there to tour the museums and base with my son. He asked me if I was wanting the "Air force" museum as he laughed. "I was not amused!" I told him - "No, I am here to take the tour that I saw online". He was still laughing but took my DL and let me proceed. So, here I am driving around this base with Charlton feeling very out of place but trying to keep my cool! We see army troops loading into trucks getting ready to take off, everyone seemed very uptight! Not my kind of people! Charlton and I go to the museum and he sits and visits with some soldiers asking all sorts of questions and loving every minute of it. We then headed over to the main Fort area. The unique thing about this area is that they have wild deer, goats, birds and other animals freely roaming around. I took a great pic of Charlton standing next to the deer. Charlton starts yelling at me to run..I look over and there is a chicken chasing me...Yes, I was scared!! I could not get the dumb bird to go away. About that time, I hear someone yelling "Excuse Me, Ma'am"! I look over and see an Army officer coming my way. Great - here I am being chased by a bird and in trouble for something! Did I mention that I was already scared to be at that place anyway! Charlton asked the officer if something was wrong. He answered, " I am going to have to escort you out of the base". I looked up in shock! The officer scared the chicken away for me and then told us why we had to leave. He told us that the base was closing for the first time in four years. He said that they are the main base this side of the Mississippi and that they had to go into rescue mode for the Hurricane.
I cannot tell you how happy I was to exit that base!! Charlton thought the visit was totally awesome and I ....well, I am just glad to be home : )!
